The Loneliness Epidemic Is Affecting Dogs Too. Here's How Daily Walks Help.
We need to talk about what's happening to dogs in major cities right now.
Loneliness. Real, measurable, heartbreaking loneliness.
As a society, we've gotten better at talking about human isolation and mental health. But we're missing something crucial: our dogs are going through the same thing.
Think about the average day for a dog in LA. Their person leaves for work. They spend 8, 9, sometimes 10 hours alone. Maybe they get a quick bathroom break. Then their exhausted owner comes home, and everyone's too tired to do much more than the basics.
Repeat five days a week.
Dogs are pack animals. They're social creatures who need interaction, mental stimulation, and physical activity. When those needs go unmet day after day, we see the consequences.
The American Veterinary Medical Association has documented increases in anxiety related behaviors in dogs. Destructive chewing. Excessive barking. Depression. Even physical health issues tied to chronic stress.
Here's what we've learned from years of daily walks across the west side:
Consistency matters more than duration. A dog who knows their walker is coming every day at 2pm has something to look forward to. Structure reduces anxiety.
Social interaction is irreplaceable. Pack walks where dogs can safely interact with others provide mental stimulation that solo walks simply can't match.
The relationship matters. Dogs bond with their regular walkers. They're not just tolerating a stranger. They're building trust with someone who shows up for them.
We had a client recently say something that stuck with me: "I didn't realize how much my work schedule was affecting my dog until I saw him with your team. He's himself again."
If you're reading this and feeling guilty, don't. You're not a bad dog parent. You're a human navigating an impossible pace of life while trying to give your dog the best.
The solution isn't working less or feeling bad. It's building a support system for your dog the same way you'd build one for yourself.
Because our dogs deserve connection too.
